Halfmoon District · Columbus, Ohio
Story
A reading of the name, not its origin.
Above the door of an old building you may find a half-round window. Architects call it a lunette, French for little moon. It lets light into the hall before you have come through the door.
Downtown Columbus has done this before. In 1888 it lit High Street with arches, and Columbus came to be called Arch City. A century ago theatre marquees made a white way through the middle of town. The arches came down around 1914.
The name Halfmoon District is new. It was named in September 2026. What it promises is old: a lit way in.
